How to turn off location in photos on iPhone and Android
Stop your camera from saving where each photo was taken, remove the location from photos you already have, and share without it.
iPhone
Stop saving location in new photos
- Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.
- Tap Camera.
- Choose Never.
Remove the location from a photo you already took
In the Photos app, open the photo and swipe up or tap the info button. Next to the map, tap Adjust and choose No Location. This needs iOS 15 or later.
To share a photo without its location just once, tap Options at the top of the share sheet and turn off Location before sending.
Android
Stop saving location in new photos
Open your camera app, go to its settings and turn off Save location. Samsung phones call it Location tags; some other phones say Geotagging.
Sharing from Google Photos
Google Photos has a setting to hide location data from photos you share by link. Look for it in the app’s settings; the exact wording varies between versions.
Check that it worked
Take a new photo and drop it into the photo location checker. If no red Location tag appears, you’re set. For older photos that still have a location, make clean copies with the location remover.
